NIAGARA FALLS RINGETTE TOURNAMENT RULES

Niagara Falls Daredevils

Tournament Rules

All teams are expected to be familiar with these rules before arriving. ORA rules and Ringette Canada Official Rules apply in all situations not specifically addressed below.

Absolutely no refunds after December 31st

This date is firm. Please ensure your team is committed before this deadline.

General Rules

1

ORA rules and Ringette Canada Official Rules will be followed.

2

All members of the coaching staff must sign the game sheets 30 minutes prior to game time. Coaching staff must designate goalies, captains, and assistants. Personal keys must be left to receive a change room key, which can be retrieved after the game along with the signed game sheets.

Note: The Tournament Host is NOT permitted to accept a driver's license, money, or any other form of collateral in exchange for a room key.

3

Teams will not be allowed into their allocated change room any earlier than 30 minutes before their game, and must vacate no later than 30 minutes after their game.

4

Teams must be ready to go on the ice ten minutes prior to scheduled game time. Failure to be on the ice within 5 minutes of notification to begin may result in a delay of game penalty or forfeiture. A forfeited game is scored 7-0, with the forfeiting team receiving zero (0) points and the opposing team receiving two (2) points.

5

Two (2) minutes are allowed for on-ice warm-up, beginning as soon as the ice resurfacer leaves. Each team is responsible for being lined up and ready to take the ice. Team cheers must take place within this period. The timekeeper will buzz with 30 seconds remaining. Teams wishing to do a cheer must proceed to their bench at this time. Failure to observe this rule will result in a delay of game penalty.

6

In the event of an injured goalie, that player has up to 5 minutes to recuperate or leave the ice. If the injured goalkeeper is replaced, they may not return until play has resumed.

If an alternate goalkeeper is already dressed, they must immediately replace the injured goalkeeper with no warm-up. If no alternate is already dressed, an additional 5 minutes is allowed to dress and warm up a replacement.

If the goalie receives a major or misconduct penalty, a maximum of 5 minutes is allowed to replace them with an eligible teammate.

7

No unsportsmanlike conduct will be tolerated from spectators or coaches. Officials will ask any person exhibiting such conduct to leave the building. If after 3 minutes the person has not left, a penalty will be assigned to the associated team. If the person refuses to leave, that team may forfeit the game.

8

The ORA tie-breaking formula will be followed. This is available for viewing at the trouble-shooting desks.

9

Games tied at the end of regulation will be handled as follows:

a. Regular Round Robin Play - the game remains tied with each team receiving one (1) point.

b. Final Game and Sudden Victory Semi-Finals - sudden victory overtime. A coin toss decides which team starts with the ring. The game proceeds to sudden victory overtime with successive 15-minute periods, with the first goal winning.

c. In the event of a curfew during overtime, Ontario Ringette rules will apply.

10

If the goal spread reaches 7 or greater, the clock will switch to running time. Running time may only occur in the second period. If the differential drops below 7, the game returns to stop time. Penalties called during running time stop the clock until play resumes. The clock also stops for injuries and time-outs. Additional goals beyond the 7-goal spread will be recorded on the scoresheet but not posted on the scoreboard.

11

With the approval of the Regional G&T Coordinator, flooding of the ice between games may be skipped if the schedule is running behind.

12

Bench staff may not receive medals on the ice. Medals will be presented off-ice.

13

Bench staff members must walk around the rink to reach their team bench. Crossing the ice surface is not permitted.

14

Teams may be asked to provide a timekeeper and shot clock operator (home team) and a scorekeeper (visiting team). The home team is the first team listed on the schedule.

15

Where applicable, no bench staff member is permitted on the ice without wearing a helmet. Helmets are required when attending to injured players.

16

Where applicable, bench staff members are not permitted on the ice without a helmet for the post-game handshake. Players are encouraged to skate by the opposing bench to shake hands with that bench staff after shaking hands with the opposing players.

U7/U8 Bunny - Two Game Guarantee

The following rules apply specifically to the U7/U8 division

Games will be two 14-minute periods, running time, with a 2-minute buzzer.

The clock stops on the buzzer and remains stopped for 30 seconds to allow line changes. After 30 seconds the referee will whistle play in. The clock does not stop for goals or penalties. Bunny penalties are served on the team bench, not in the penalty box.

One coach per team is allowed on the ice during play for instructional purposes. Helmets are mandatory for on-ice coaches.

No touching of opposition players by coaches. Coaches' own players should not be physically moved into position during playing time. Coaches may not impede on-ice officials.

No double shifting unless the number of available players warrants it. All players are to be used equally in any double-shifting situation.

Goaltenders may be dressed in full gear. All players must rotate through the goalie position at least once.

Penalties result in ring possession being awarded to the non-penalized team in the normal fashion. Penalty time is waived as per Sport Development recommendation.

Scores will not be displayed during the game.

Games will have a curfew on the hour.

Coaching staff should make every effort to ensure an enjoyable, positive, and constructive experience for both teams.
