Understanding the Certifications
NCCP Coach Initiation in Sport (prerequisite) A free online module required before registering for any CSI or CI clinic. Completed at thelocker.coach.ca. Takes roughly 30 minutes. Everyone who needs CSI or CI must complete this first.
Community Sport Initiation (CSI) - for FUN2, FUN3, U12 Designed for coaches entering ringette and those coaching un-tiered or developmental divisions. Covers needs of sport participants, ethical coaching, ringette rules and equipment, planning, and safety. Approximately 10 hours including on-ice instruction. Register at coachingringette.ca.
Competition Introduction (CI) - for U14, U16, U19 Designed for coaches with at least three seasons of coaching experience in ringette or other sports. CI has two levels: Trained (clinic completion) and Certified (clinic plus evaluation). At B levels (which is all Daredevils teams), Trained is the minimum requirement. Coaches must complete a pre-clinic workbook before the system allows registration. Register at coachingringette.ca.
MED - Make Ethical Decisions (required U12 and up) A 4-hour live training (available online or in person) followed by a free online evaluation at thelocker.coach.ca. Completing the online evaluation alone without attending the clinic does not count as complete. Required for all coaches at U12 and higher divisions.
Respect in Sport (Activity Leader) OR CAC Safe Sport Training All bench staff must complete one of these two programs. The Respect in Sport Activity Leader program is available at ringette-canada-activityleader.respectgroupinc.com. The CAC Safe Sport Training (Direct Athlete Contact) e-module is the alternative and is available through the Coaching Association of Canada. Either one satisfies the requirement. Note: this is separate from the parent version completed during player registration.
Female Coach on the Bench
All teams from U8 through U19 must have at least one fully qualified female coach (18 or older) present on the bench for all team activities. This must be a Head Coach or Assistant Coach holding the appropriate certification for the division. Trainers, Junior Coaches, and On-Ice Assistants do not satisfy this requirement. Open and Masters divisions are exempt. This requirement must be met by November 30, 2026.
Vulnerable Sector Check
All bench staff must have a current 2026 Vulnerable Sector Check on file before the season begins. VSCs must be renewed each season. Niagara Falls residents can apply through Niagara Regional Police. Many services now offer online applications.
Where to get it: Your local police service or OPP detachment. Apply online where available.
Where to submit: Email a copy to coaching@nfringette.ca or deliver it to the registrar at the start of the season.
Important: A check from a previous year will not be accepted. Do not submit your VSC through RAMP.
First Aid Certification (Trainers)
All team trainers must hold current Standard First Aid and CPR-C certification valid for the 2026-2027 season. It is strongly recommended that the trainer be present at all team activities, not just games. Training is available through the Red Cross, St. John Ambulance, and other accredited providers in Niagara.
Junior Coaches
U16 and younger teams may include Junior Coaches on the bench. These are individuals aged 14 to 17 (as of December 31 of the playing season) who are being trained with no official duties. A maximum of two Junior Coaches may be on the bench during a game, provided bench staff does not exceed five total.
• Must have appropriate certification for the team's level before commencing the role
• Cannot fill the female coach on the bench requirement
• Not permitted on U19 or 18+ teams
On-Ice Assistants
On-Ice Assistants help during practice sessions. They are not bench staff, do not appear on the Team Registration Form, and are not permitted on the bench during games. They must register with Ringette Ontario and be qualified before stepping on the ice. All on-ice participants must wear a CSA-approved helmet.
• Vulnerable Sector Check required
• Appropriate certification for the division required prior to commencing
• Players within the same club who assist on ice (but are not Junior Coaches) do not need dual registration
Team Manager
Note: Managers are not permitted on the bench during sanctioned events. The manager role is entirely off-ice.
The team manager handles off-ice logistics including communications, parent volunteers, scheduling, finances, and liaison with leagues, tournaments, and officials. By taking on these duties, the manager allows the coaching staff to stay focused on player development.
Ringette Canada Manager Certification An online course available at coachingringette.ca for $25 via PayPal. Read through the material and answer questions after each section. On completion, you receive a wallet card and are registered with Ringette Canada as a certified manager. Must be completed by November 30, 2026.
Vulnerable Sector Check Required for all managers. Must be a 2026 check submitted before the season begins.
Respect in Sport - Activity Leader OR CAC Safe Sport Training Required for all team staff including managers.
League Information
| Lower Ontario Ringette League (LORL) The Daredevils compete in LORL across FUN2, FUN3, U12B, U16B, U19B, and 18+B. Coaches should review LORL policies and procedures prior to the season.
